Philadelphia Liberty Bell Facts The Liberty Bell, encased in glass, sits near Independence Hall in Independence National Historical Park. Liberty Bell weighs roughly 2,000 pounds and is made primarily of copper and tin. Trace amounts of gold, silver, zinc, lead and arsenic further the composition. The yoke, made of American elm, is believed to be original. Prior to finding a permanent home outside Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell was a traveling exhibit of sorts until 1915. The famous crack extending up the side of the bell has been a permanent distinction since 1846 when Liberty Bell was rung for the last time.
